Tinplate (Chinese Pinyin: ma kou tie), abbreviated as SPTE in English, is a cold-rolled low-carbon thin steel sheet or commercial steel strip electroplated with pure tin. Tin is anti-corrosion and anti-rust. Therefore, tinplate combines the strength and formability of steel with the corrosion resistance, weldability and beautiful appearance of tin to provide a new material with corrosion resistance, non-toxicity, high strength and ductility.

Tinplate, thin steel plate, is coated with tin by immersion in molten metal or electrolytic deposition; now almost all tinplate is produced by the latter process. The tinplate produced by this process is essentially a sandwich, in which the center core is strip steel. The core is cleaned in a pickling solution and then passed through a tank filled with electrolyte, where tin is deposited on both sides. When the strip passes through the high-frequency induction coil, it is heated, causing the tin coating to melt and flow , forming a shiny coating.
